Mommy Chats

Hello all! I hope your first day of February is going well. I figured with how my day has gone, I would sit down and talk about tough days with little ones. I think I will make a series called Mommy Chats or Mommy Stories. If you have any thoughts or ideas let me know! Its a working title for the moment.

So I woke up this morning not feeling the best. I have had a headache the past 2 days that I just cant shake. My nose was also super stuffy and needless to say I woke up on the wrong side of the bed. My daughter must have thought “today is a good day to drive mommy crazy.”  She has been running around and screaming nonstop all day long. Normally I would be somewhat calm with her, but today I just can’t seem to deal with it. She has managed to push all my buttons and it is only a little after 3:00 p.m. Thankfully she is down for her nap now, lets cross our fingers and hope its a good 2 hour nap.

As I was getting Riley down for her nap, I was thinking that other parents probably have days like this too. Days that just don’t go as planned and no matter what they are slightly (I’m more than slightly) on edge. I thought this could be a good place where we can all talk about our mommy or daddy struggles and help one another out. For instance, if you have gone through this and have any tricks to help the rest of the day go smoother, they can share their ideas. Unfortunately, I don’t have any tips or tricks today. My goals are to learn to be calmer and more collected on the rough days. Maybe I should try meditation again?

  1. We all need some method to keep us calm. My little one is exactly like me so we drive each other up the wall constantly. I found that making a cup of coffee and just sitting outside (summer here by us) helps me to calm down. I’ve even gone so far as putting on earphones and listening to some music, just to block out some of the craziness around. I know it is probably not all the best of ideas, but it keeps me sane when things get bad.
    Love the idea of mommy chats!! We all need to feel more normal especially when things get hectic.

  2. I heard someone say that it really helps toddlers if you can spend an hour playing on the floor with them, down at their level. It keeps them calmer throughout the rest of the day. I wish I had more advice, my kids are teenagers and I was too young when I had them to have any good sense of what to do. Especially with my first. She has flaming red hair and came out completely independent since birth. All I can say is try to look at it as you’re their guide, and that emotions are hard for them. And that it’s completely OK to take care of mom first.

  3. I wouldn’t have the time to to do meditation lol but I have days like this all the time I think my son is going through separation anxiety(that’s what the dr says anyway) sometimes when I’m having a day like this I just have to walk away. Just for a few minutes.
