The great Dr. Seuss once said “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more things that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”
There are thousands of books in the world just waiting to be read. Not many people now a days enjoy cracking open a book and reading. For me, this is not the case. As long as I can remember I have always enjoyed reading. It is one of my most cherished hobbies. When I was younger, I would always read before going to bed. My mom would tell me to find a good place to stop reading so I can get my rest. After everyone would fall asleep, I would take my book and hide out in the bathroom and read. I chose the bathroom so I wouldn’t get caught by my parents. If its a really good book, there is no chance that I can just set it down and read later. As I got older, I would just stay in my room and read til the early morning.
There are books that I read as a child that I still enjoy reading now. For instance, I love the Harry Potter series. I know, I know, I’m in my twenties and I still love reading and watching Harry Potter. They were all written and turned into movies while I grew up and it has a special place in my heart. I have so many favorite books that I can never choose just one. The series Beautiful Disaster by Jamie McGuire is another one of my favorites. There is tragedy, humor, and romance. A few of my other favorites are; Just Listen written by Sarah Dessen, The Catcher and the Rye written by J.D. Salinger and Jitterbug Perfume written by Tom Robbins. All of these books were very well written, and have wonderful messages.
What are some of your favorite books? What do you like about them? I’m always looking for new and exciting books to dive into.
I will leave you with one of my favorite quotes by Stephen King, “Books are a uniquely portable magic.”
